Welding the gate frame and components
We use MIG welding to join the pickets, art panels and hinge brackets to the gate frame. CNC plasma cutting is also part of our equipment for this work.
We grind visible welds flush where the design calls for it. A flush finish is design-specific, not something we promise for every weld on the gate.
Custom double-swing gate pricing
A custom double-swing steel driveway gate with moderate cut artwork costs $10,000–$20,000. This range applies to that gate configuration; it is not a railing price or a general price for all metalwork. When comparing proposals, make sure they describe the same type of gate and level of artwork.

When the gate is part of a larger home project
If you are also building or substantially improving a home in a regulated flood area, Franklin’s zoning ordinance sets flood-protection requirements, including a required elevation for the lowest floor. Keep that requirement in the planning for the home project rather than treating the gate fabrication as the full scope of the work.

Our Process
-
Call or Text
Tell us what you're seeing and when it started — you'll get a straight answer, not a sales pitch.
-
On-Site Inspection
We come out, measure what's actually happening, and walk you through what we find.
-
Know the Price First
We put the fix, the timeline, and the number on paper — take your time with it.
Some of what that looks like in the field:
- Prepare a scaled gate rendering and revise it with the customer before cutting begins.
- Miter and bevel square-tube frame corners to prepare them for full-penetration welds.

Straight Answers to Common Questions
How much do metal fabricators charge per hour?
Rates typically range $50–$150/hour, depending on expertise and location. Ornamental work (e.g., custom gates) often costs more due to design time. Complex projects may use flat-rate pricing based on estimated labor and materials.
What should I check before hiring a metalwork contractor?
Verify licenses, insurance, and past project examples. Ask about warranties (e.g., rust protection), timeline guarantees, and payment schedules. For custom work, ensure they provide design drafts and clarify who handles permits. Avoid large upfront deposits without proof of ordered materials.
Can welding damage nearby glass, and how is it repaired?
Yes, welding heat or grinding sparks can crack or etch glass. Protect windows with fire-resistant blankets during work. Minor etching may be polished out, but severe damage often requires replacement. Discuss protection plans with your fabricator beforehand.
