Preparing and finishing the steel
We sandblast the gate to bare white metal, removing mill scale, rust, and oils before finishing. We then powder-coat and oven-cure the prepared panels, or apply and seal a patina finish. Sealing is part of the patina process, not a substitute for preparing the steel.
Custom driveway gate pricing
Our custom sliding or cantilever steel driveway gates cost $14,000–$40,000 per gate. This range is for these steel driveway gate types, not general fencing.

Some of what that looks like in the field:
- Miter and bevel square-tube frame corners to prepare them for full-penetration welds.
- CNC plasma-cut gate artwork from steel plate, then dress the cuts to remove dross and soften the edges.

Straight Answers to Common Questions
What are the types of metal fabrication?
Metal fabrication includes cutting, bending, welding, machining, and assembling metal parts. Common types are structural (beams, frames), sheet metal (ducts, panels), and ornamental (railings, gates). Processes vary from CNC plasma cutting to hand-forged wrought iron work, depending on the project's complexity and materials like steel, aluminum, or copper.
How much does metal fabrication cost?
Costs vary widely by project. Simple outdoor handrails range $50–$230 per linear foot installed, while custom steel gates start at $6,000 for basic designs. Factors include material type, labor intensity (e.g., CNC cutting vs. hand welding), and design complexity. Always get detailed quotes outlining materials and labor.
Is metal fabrication just welding?
No, welding is one part of fabrication. The process also includes designing, cutting (e.g., CNC plasma), bending, machining, and finishing. Projects like gates require precise measurements, material selection, and assembly beyond welding. Some jobs may involve minimal welding, focusing instead on mechanical fastening or adhesive bonding.
